New lanes opening on M50 Northbound and M50 Southbound

Monday 8th February at 6AM

A new third lane to open on the M50 Southern Section in both directions between Junction 10 (Ballymount) and Junction 14 (Sandyford) on Monday 8th February at

6AM.

This latest M50 opening comes one week after the opening of a third lane plus an auxiliary fourth lane, connecting junctions, on the M50 Northern Section in both directions between Junction 3 (M1/Airport) and Junction 6 (M3/Blanchardstown) on Monday 1st February.

In total today’s opening combined the previous week equals 22km of additional motorway added to the M50 mainline and as a result it will improve traffic flow along the entire M50 corridor.

Mr. Fed Barry, CEO National Roads Authority, said “We are pleased with the progress of work along the M50 mainline. There are still upgrade works to be completed at some of the junctions, but this is major step in the right direction. The M50 remains on schedule for full completion by the end of 2010.”

Remaining works to be completed for M50 upgrade include:

  • M1 Northbound widening between M50 to Airport
  • Junction 4 (Ballymun)
  • Junction 5 (N2 Ashbourne/Finglas)
  • Junction 6 (N3 Blanchardstown)
  • Junction 11 (N81 Tallaght)
  • Junction 12 (Scholarstown/Firhouse)
