| Description: | The N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown forms part of the South West Corridor that links Limerick and Cork to Dublin and is to be upgraded to dual carriageway/ motorway standard. Roadbridge/ Sisk Joint Venture was appointed as the Contractor in October 2004 to Design and Build the works for this project. Construction works began in March 2006.
A 12 km section of this scheme, and 3 km of the N24 which effectively provided a bypass to the north of Cahir town, were opened to traffic on 15th October 2007.
The remainder of the route was officially opened to traffic on 25th July 2008 by Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D.
This project has been funded by the Irish Government under the National Development Plan and Transport 21 and by the European Union from the trans-European transport networks budget. |
