TII is delighted to announce its programme of events and projects for Heritage Week 2023, with events planned in Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Roscommon and Waterford.
Projects
TII is delighted to introduce several new and updated online projects for Heritage Week 2023.
The "Excavations on the Iveragh Peninsula - The Archaeology of the N70 Brackaharagh Road Improvement Scheme" Story Map which describes the archaeological works undertaken by AMS on behalf of Kerry County Council and TII on this scheme.
The "Digging Around Listowel – The Archaeology of the N69 Bypass" Story Map has been updated by AMS and relaunched with new content describing the final archaeological results of the scheme, as well as recent pollen analysis undertaken by Dr Karen Molloy of NUIG.
TII archaeologist Ken Hanley, has produced a new Story Map "The people of medieval Killeagh", describing the archaeological discoveries of the N25 Killeagh Pavement Strengthening Scheme in east County Cork, in collaboration with Cork County Council and Rubicon Heritage.
While AMS have produced a fascinating project website for the N77 Ballyragget Village to Ballynaslee Road Improvement Scheme on behalf of Kilkenny County Council and TII. This project website showcases 19th century life with the story of Mabel Cahill. It also provides a link to a youtube dig diary by site director John Channing.

Final results of the excavations along the N69 Listowel Bypass will be presented by Tony Bartlett and Ross Drummond of AMS.
Dr Karen Molloy from the University of Galway will discuss her analysis of a bog core taken in proximity to the Bypass, describing the fossil pollen, history of woodland and land use change in the Listowel area since the Bronze Age.

Viking Heritage Day at Woodstown
Viking heritage celebration at Woodstown on the Waterford Greenway (access from Carriganore or Killoteran car parks). Watch Viking battle re-enactments and kiddie vikes and browse through the Viking Craft Village - spinning, leather, pottery, coin making and jewellery. Take part in Dig in a Box, view artefacts with the National Museum, see the replica Viking boat, try your hand at being an archaeologist - who knows what you may discover!
This event is run by Déise Medieval in collaboration with Waterford City and County Council, SETU, TII, National Museum Ireland, TVAS Archaeology and Abarta Heritage.
